Saifuddin Kitchlyu arr. Satya Pal and for this, a large number of the peaceful crowd gathered in this place of Amritsar. With anger for this protection, the British Officer named Brigadier General R.E.H. Dyer put his soldiers all around the Bagh to block the exit of the people. 

This Bagh had blocked with buildings from three sides and only one side was available for the exit of the people which was blocked. Thereafter, that cruel general ordered his soldiers to open fire with Lee-Enfield rifles on the unarmed peaceful protesters even on those who tried to flee to save themselves. 

In compliance with the orders of the general, the troops continued firing on the protesters until their entire ammunition was exhausted. It was a very heart-hitting incident in which at least 1000 people lost their lives and about 1250 people were injured. 

With this incident, the first Asian Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore was shocked to the extent that he surrender his knighthood with the words that such mass murders are not worthy to give anyone any title. Due to this merciless incident, many moderate Indians abandoned their loyalty towards the Britishers and became true Indians.
